Tips for working with HBJ--straight from the editor-in-chief's mouth
In Houston's robust media landscape, how does the Houston Business Journal differentiate itself and why does that matter to you and your clients? As you read this, Sean McCrory, editor-in-chief, and his reporters at the Houston Business Journal are planning their coverage for the next year and a half. Now is the time to understand the ins and outs of working with HBJ to meet its audience's expectations--while also promoting your client's expertise.
At the August 13 IABC Houston Entrepreneurs Strategic Interest Group (ESIG) meeting, McCrory will share insights on the lens that guides HBJ's editorial focus, what their aim is and how they hone their news judgment. Although the Journal maintains a rigid line between its newsroom and its advertising sales, events and sponsorships, McCrory will also discuss how he can serve as a conduit for all of your conversations around both earned and paid media.
Remember, you don't have to be an entrepreneur to attend the ESIG meeting. If local media coverage--and the ability of local media to thrive--matter to you, join us for an insightful and valuable presentation.

Speaker: Sean McCrory's long career in journalism--and specifically in business journalism--led him to HBJ's editor-in-chief post in 2023. Prior to that, he was the editor-in-chief at the Orlando Business Journal. In total, he has over 32 years' experience as a journalist in newsrooms throughout Texas, Florida, Louisiana and New York. He has a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Florida, where he also taught media writing for a number of years.
